McClintock Saloon & Chop House

You won’t find a hitching post or swinging doors at McClintock Saloon & Chop House, but the new Stockyards City restaurant is certainly bringing a heavy dose of Old West nostalgia to the area. Get ready for a great dining experience and maybe three fingers of whiskey (dozens are available) like the Cowboys of the Wild West enjoyed.

McClintock is the brainchild of Michel Buthion, a man who spent his childhood in France dreaming of being a cowboy. His love for the Wild West is what brought him to Oklahoma, and he has built his reputation operating La Baguette Bistro with his brother, Alain.

McClintock Saloon & Chop House measures a whopping 7,300 square feet, including the whiskey garden out back. It’s situated in the old store space of McClintock Heritage Collection, a former premier boot store in Stockyards City.

What you’ll notice right off the bat is the 50-foot-long, solid oak bar and back bar hand-constructed by local carpenter Larry Hall. The main columns of the back bar feature corbels of Hercules and Helen of Troy, which were hand-carved by a Russian artist. The back bar also includes two stained-glass windows that are at least 100 years old; one, from Boston, is of Samuel Adams and the other, from Ireland, includes verse from Hamlet.

Buthion jokes that McClintock will have two types of food: “country and western.” All entrées come with a side and a starch; lunch starts at $15 a person, and dinner prices begin at $25 a person. A modern-day twist on the classic cowboy/cowgirl meal might include crispy chicken livers, chop salad, a ribeye steak with cracked pepper brandy cream and a side of green beans!
