Oklahoma City’s Adventure District, located at the crossroads of I-35 and I-44, is home to some of the most popular tourist attractions in the state. Here, families and friends can come for the day and never run out of exciting things to see and experience, like the World Series of Softball, held annually at the ASA National Softball Hall of Fame.
And there’s so much more. The Oklahoma City Zoo is home to over 1,900 animals, each housed in unique habitats that truly represent their special and varied needs. The Cat Forest/Lion Overlook has one of the most diverse collection of cats in the region, and the Great EscApe is the only exhibit of its kind to house all three ape species. The Oklahoma Trails Adventure is a special space dedicated to Oklahoma’s beauty, a naturalistic zone featuring 11 distinct habitats unique to the state. And don’t forget the elephant habitat, where a baby girl, Achara, was born in December 2014.
Right next door to the zoo is Science Museum Oklahoma, home to countless kid-friendly exhibits, hands-on activities and multiple galleries. Experience a tornado simulator, try your hand at a Segway course, journey through ExploraZone’s exhibits on sound, color and light, and much more. There’s also CurioCity, a 21,000-square-foot space featuring eight “neighborhoods” to help kids explore basic science and hone their creative minds.
The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is the area’s premier destination for all things related to the American cowboy and the Western tradition. More than 28,000 artworks and artifacts compose the museum's extensive collection, with permanent exhibits including the American Cowboy Gallery, the Native American Gallery, the Museum of the Frontier West, the Fine Firearms Gallery and more.
But for a more fast-paced experience, head over to Remington Park for racing action that never ends. The quarter horses hit the track every spring, and heart-pounding live thoroughbred racing begins in August. It’s the perfect spot to bring a group, book a suite and bet on the races. But that’s just the half of it; right inside is Remington’s casino, where the party goes on and on with a jam-packed schedule of live music, giveaways, hot seat drawings, tournaments and more.
