Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon

at Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is a prestigious, Boston-qualifying run held each year to honor the victims of the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Voted one of the 12 "must-run" marathons in the world by Runner’s World magazine, the Memorial Marathon typically brings runners from around the world to Oklahoma City.

For its 20th anniversary year, the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon has decided to make the race a virtual event in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the health of the community, the race and 168 seconds of silence ceremony will begin on October 4 using streaming technology. Although this special year’s race may look different, the reason behind running and supporting is still the same: to remember those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever on April 19, 1995. The race upholds the mission of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, which is a private nonprofit organization and the sole beneficiary of the Memorial Marathon proceeds.

Virtual runners will still receive an event t-shirt, medal and other swag ahead of October 4, as well as a coupon code for 20% off the registration for next year’s race on April 25, 2021. If you’ve been excited about taking part in the Governor’s Challenge, keep training! Governor Stitt and his team will be running, so you still have a chance to beat his team’s time and get a special commemorative t-shirt.

By running the 2020 Marathon or Half Marathon in Oklahoma City and Tulsa’s Williams Route 66 Marathon, also virtual in November, you will receive a commemorative Oklahoma Standard Challenge medal in your Williams Route 66 race packet. This is a great way to honor the reason behind the #RunToRemember and take part in two special Oklahoma events.

There are many ways to #RunToRemember, whether it be the Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay, 5K or Kids Marathon. If you haven’t signed up for one of the five Virtual Memorial Marathon races, do so now at okcMarathon.com before registration closes on Thursday, October 1.
